"Baby Boomers", "Generation X", and "Millennials"- It Isn't That Simple

Our generations are defined in the mainstream by names. The Baby Boomers. Generation X. The Millennials. However, the time periods of these generations vary depending on the person. The most common years are 1946-1964 for the Boomers, 1965-1981 for Generation X, and 1982-2000 for the Millennials, but some start at 1943 for the Boomers, 1961 for Generation X, and 1977 for the Millennials. What if I told you that there is a way more reliable method of defining generations than just names and time periods? Well, there is, and not many know about it.

Astrology.

Yes, astrology very accurately defines our generations, as well as our own individual personalities. The planets Pluto and Neptune both stay in a single sign for well over a decade, bringing their influences to entire generations of people, thus making them very reliable generational markers.

1942-1957- Pluto in Leo/Neptune in Libra

This is the pairing for most of the Baby Boomers, and defines them very well. The older Boomers have an energy to them that the later Boomers do not, and the combination of Leo and Libra describes it perfectly. These were the people who burned their draft cards and protested the Vietnam War, and also the same people who are at fault for a lot of the mess today, simply because their egos have gotten the better of them. Notable people in this generation include Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin, and Donald Trump. In fact, Donald Trump is the perfect example of the dark side of Leo (greed, thirst for power, enormous ego to name a few things), and he's our president right now! I wonder if he's president right now just to show us what we've become, caring more about our egos and being better than others rather than simply doing the right thing? On the bright side, this generation was the driving force behind classic and progressive rock, which were common throughout the 60s and 70s. My mom and all my aunts and uncles are part of this generation as well, and all have these qualities as well.

1956-1970- Pluto in Virgo/Neptune in Scorpio

Yes, this generation starts in 1956 despite the previous generation ending a year later. This is because of retrogrades, and is quite common. This generation is the later Boomers and early Generation X'ers, all of whom share a similar energy. While the previous generation was more flamboyant, this generation is way more down to earth and has an intensity to them that the previous generation doesn't. It's very notable that this generation was the driving force behind either heavier forms of music, most notably heavy metal and grunge, or softer and purer forms of music, such as soft rock. In sports, this generation produced some of the best athletes in history, such as Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Brett Favre, Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Wayne Gretsky, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Barry Bonds to name a few. Virgo is known for efficiency and Scorpio is known for its desire and intensity, so this is no coincidence. This generation is focused n health, work, and service as a whole.

1971-1984- Pluto in Libra/Neptune in Sagittarius

These are the later Generation X'ers and early Millennials, and once again, there is a clear difference between these people and the people who came before and after them. These people are relationship oriented to a fault, and a shadow side to them is that they'll often stay in bad relationships much longer than they should for the purpose of "not being alone". Three of my cousins are part of this generation, and all of them are extremely focused on relationships. True to both Libra and Sagittarius, these people are also extremely focused on social justice, making these people a huge percentage of the much maligned "social justice warriors". These people have much less of an edge than the previous generation, but in a way, that is very necessary when you take into consideration the next generation...

1984-1995- Pluto in Scorpio/Neptune in Capricorn

My generation. The combination of Scorpio and Capricorn results in a seriousness that not only matches, but likely surpasses, that of Pluto in Virgo/Neptune in Scorpio. We are the generation that came of age in a recession (just like Pluto in Virgo/Neptune in Scorpio in the late 70s and early 80s) and were all in school when 9/11 occurred, making us exposed to the dark side of the world at an early age after a "peaceful" childhood in the 90s. The "edge" of this generation is not hard to find, as this generation is well known for wearing black, as well as sporting tattoos and piercings. This edgy side of us is also starting to become seen in the political arena, as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a member of this generation, and has already stood out amongst her older fellow congress members. In sports, notable members of this generation include LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden. Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. These players have an unmistakable intensity to them, and most of these athletes have been willing to team up with each other in order to ensure success. Capricorn is the sign associated with success and achieving goals. It is notable that this era was also when materialism and greed were "cool", as the mid to late 80s and early to mid 90s were full of advertisements embracing materialism.

1998-2008- Pluto in Sagittarius/Neptune in Aquarius

This generation starts two years later as the people born in 1996-1997 were more of a hybrid between this generation and the last generation, as Neptune didn't enter Aquarius until January 1998. Unlike the previous generation, there is more of a detached energy to this generation, which should be expected as Aquarius is known for being detached. As teenagers, this generation is also known for being more wild and crazy than usual, which is the Sagittarius in them. While they're still too young to make their mark just yet, there is an extreme intelligence amongst these teenagers and young adults, which, once again, should be expected with Pluto and Neptune occupying two of the most intellectual signs of the zodiac.

2011-2024- Pluto in Capricorn/Neptune in Pisces

Once again, the people from 2009-2010 are more of a hybrid between this generation and the previous generation, as Neptune didn't enter Pisces until April 2011. It is WAY too early to make any sort of judgment on this generation, as the oldest ones are only in 2nd grade, but when this generation comes of age, I highly recommend that you take notice, as the seriousness of Capricorn and the compassionate nature of Pisces make for a VERY interesting combination!

There are still members of the Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Leo (1914-1929) and Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Virgo (1928-1939) generations alive, but these generations aren't as notable in today's society and I have limited interactions with both of these generations, as my grandma was from Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Leo but died shortly after I began 3rd grade and nobody in my family is from Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Virgo. Both these generations are notable for their focus on family and patriotism, and the older Pluto Cancers from 1914-1929, such as Bob Barker, Hugh Hefner, Monty Hall, and Ed McMahon, are/were known for having a warmer energy than the younger Pluto Cancers from 1928-1939 like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Paul Crouch, Ron Paul, Larry King, etc.

Using astrology to define our generations is more accurate, as it gives precise boundaries as to when one generation ends and the next one begins, which loosely assigning names and years to does not.
